TREX - The Male Gaze Exhibition

Time: All Day
Location: Staurt MacPherson Public Library

Be a man… Man up… This will make a man out of you… Take it like a man…

Boys and men hear such statements throughout their lives- But what exactly does it mean to be ‘a man’?

In feminist theory the phrase ‘the male gaze’ refers to the act of depicting women in the visual arts and literature from a masculine, heterosexual perspective. The traveling exhibition The Male Gaze disrupts this performance by presenting the work of three male artists from Edmonton who investigate male subjects and concerns as themes in their work; exploring concepts of gender and what it means or could mean to be ‘a man’. Ultimately, The Male Gaze addresses conflicts such as ‘toxic masculinity’ and gender identity, and asks viewers to consider and question the character and roles of men in society through both the lens of history and the present day.

More Monsters Outdoor Storytime

Time: 10:30 am - 11:00 am
Location: Northern Lights Library System

We will be doing a monster-themed storytime from 10:30-11:00 on Thursday, September 24 if weather permits.

We'll be reading some some monster stories and singing some monster songs - so if you like, come wearing a cool monster costume or bring some awesome monster art!

Due to Covid-19 social distancing restrictions, we will have to limit attendance to 5 families, so please make sure to register ahead if you can! If it's raining or too cold, we will call all registrants by 10:00 am and let you know not to come. Please bring a blanket to sit on, as we will be on the grass.

Please note that to keep our storytime accessible to everyone, we will be filming to post on Facebook. If you prefer not to be on camera, please let our library staff members know before we begin.

We will be keeping all our storytime videos available on Facebook until we are once again doing storytime in person without limits.
