IT Blurb #11 - Adding & Removing Bookmarks

March 5 2021

Happy Friday everyone! We hope that you are staying safe and healthy.

Bookmarks. Favourites. What are they, and how do you create them?

These simple tools are incredibly useful for keeping track of and categorizing websites that are important to you or your work. The instructions for each browser are very similar, but there are some slight differences that are worth noting. Please note that while only Firefox and Microsoft Edge are covered in this blurb, these tools are available in other browsers such as Chrome, Opera, Safari, etc.

Firefox:

  1. Go to the page/website that you would like to bookmark.
  2. Click the ‘Star’ button located at the end of the address bar.
  3. Under ‘Folder’, select where you would like the bookmark to go. ‘Bookmarks Toolbar’ will place bookmarks directly under the address bar for easy access, whereas ‘Bookmarks Menu’ will place them in options (accessible by pressing Alt + B on your keyboard) and ‘Other Bookmarks’ will create a folder at the end of the bookmarks toolbar.
  4. To remove a bookmark, right click it and select ‘Delete’ or open the bookmark, then click the ‘Star’ button at the end of the address bar and then click ‘Remove Bookmark’.

Edge:

  1. Go to the page/website that you would like to favorite.
  2. Click the ‘Star’ button located at the end of the address bar.
  3. Under ‘Folder’, select where you would like the favorite to go. ‘Favorites Bar’ will place favorites directly under the address bar (if the bar doesn’t show up automatically, press Ctrl + Shift + B on your keyboard). The ‘Other Favorites’ folder will place favorites in a folder at the end of the favorites toolbar. You can also create new folders by clicking the drop-down menu and selecting ‘Choose another folder’, and then ‘New folder’.
  4. To remove a favorite, right click it and select ‘Delete’ or open the favorite, then click the ‘Star’ button and then ‘Remove’.

Once enough bookmarks/favorites are saved to the bar, it will fill up. When this occurs, any additional pages that are saved will appear underneath an arrow at the end of the bar. When clicked, the arrow will expand into a menu that displays any additional bookmarks/favorites that aren’t displayed on the bar.
