Winter Reading Program Kicking off in January!

December 24 2020

The Northern Lights Winter Reading Program is almost here! This year, we have lots of fun things for participants of all ages.

Kicking things off, we will be having the yearly winter reading prize drawSubmit your hours for your chance to win one of three kobos! You can also pick a reading team and watch the leaderboard to find out which team has the most reading recorded. Ballots can be submitted from January 1st - February 28th.

Next up is the snow sculpting competition! Build a snow man, freeze some ice art, skate a picture into the lake- the choice is yours! Submit a picture of your creation to your local library with enough information to contact you if you win and a name for your wintery art piece any time in January. The picture and the creation’s name will go up on the website in February, where you can vote on your favourites. The winner will receive a snow brick builder kit for future artistic endeavors.

Show up at your library any time between January and February for a library scavenger hunt: grab a hunt card and write down the names of the figures hidden around the shelves. Explore your library and find a new book while you look!

Finally, on January 27th, you can read your library to glory by participating in Read for 15, an Alberta-wide inter-community competition. Read for 15 minutes and let us know by filling out the form on our website to help get your library ranked!
