Caution - Photo Releases Needed

Caution - Photo Releases Needed

The excitement is mounting as we customize our new library websites and they are starting to look great!  It is thrilling to see how many libraries have jumped full force into their web design and I commend you all!  One of the great features of the websites is that we can now easily download photographs into our own individual online photo albums.

But before you upload that picture of little Timmy smiling at your library performer or Mrs. Smith admiring your latest wall art, stop and ask yourself, do you have permission by this person or this person's parent/guardian to publish this photo?  The Privacy and Publicity rights in Canada, although lax, are set to protect individuals from having their image published.  Therefore, I encourage the "better safe, than sorry" approach to publishing photos.  It is always a good practice to get a signed photo release for everyone, not just minors.

I have created a customizable photo release form that will allow you to obtain permission to use an individuals photo in all your publications, including your websites.  Click here to access it.
