Do you enjoy working with computers? Are you tech savvy? If so then we want to hear from you. Northern Lights Library System is currently looking for a full-time Summer Student to assist the I.T. Department.

Your responsibilities may include but not be limited to:

  • Taking inventory
  • Installing operating systems and software
  • Creating/updating maintenance documents
  • Assisting on site visits

Your responsibilities may include but not be limited to:
  • Receptionist and Clerk duties
  • Delivery Driver for Interlibrary Loan service
  • IT duties
  • Pop-up library service on Reserve
  • Assisting with Summer Reading Program
  • Supporting where needed to cover staff holidays and increased summer workload
Both positions:


A class 5 Alberta Drivers License with a clean record is required

Northern Lights Library System, headquartered in Elk Point, Alberta, is looking for a Manager, Public Services

Reporting to the Director, the Manager of Public Services is responsible for the supervision of services to our 48 member libraries. The most critical role is to help make each member library successful in serving its customers.

As Manager of Public Services, you will be responsible for building a cohesive team of consultants through effective training, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of Public Services Staff and system services. This will ensure that member libraries meet the goals of providing support for programs and recreation in their communities.

At headquarters, the Public Services Manager is part of the Management Team and is expected to take a leadership role in articulating the requirements of public services and integrating them into the overall mandate of the library system.

The Manager of Public Services also has supervisory responsibility for the branch Library Clerk.

The Manager of Public Services will be responsible for the reporting on the Indigenous Grant.

Elk Point is only two hours from Edmonton in a beautiful rural setting and surrounded by several larger centers within half an hour’s drive.

Requirements:

  • A complete ALA accredited MLIS is required
  • Minimum of five years supervisory/management skills
  • Flexibility, ability to work within tight deadlines and under pressure
  • Able to demonstrate leadership abilities
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to work closely and effectively with others
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Superior computer skills
  • Polaris ILS trained preferred
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of bibliographic services is beneficial
  • Understanding of the role of the public library in rural communities
  • A valid driver’s license is required as the position entails travel throughout the region

Northern Lights Library System, headquartered in Elk Point, Alberta, is looking for a Manager, Bibliographic Services


Reporting to the Director, the Manager of Bibliographic Services is accountable for overseeing all aspects of bibliographic service activities within NLLS and participates in appropriate province wide activities as the NLLS representative. This position is also responsible for acting as a consultant to member libraries, working in cooperation with other members of the management team and their respective departments.

The Manager of the Bibliographic Services Department is expected to take a leadership role in articulating the requirements of Bibliographic Services and integrating them into the overall mandate of the library system. The position has a large number of staff reporting to it, and will maintain important interaction with all Northern Lights staff and Library Members for the purpose of problem solving, troubleshooting, training and input.

Elk Point is only two hours from Edmonton in a beautiful rural setting and surrounded by several larger centers within half an hour’s drive.

Requirements:

  • A complete ALA accredited MLIS is required
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience/management skills
  • Cataloguing courses in RDA and MARC21 preferred
  • Polaris ILS is advantageous
  • Flexibility, ability to work within tight deadlines and under pressure
  • Able to demonstrate leadership abilities
  • Ability to work closely and effectively with others
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Superior computer skills
